Hey Dan, I have made a few visits here, like what you have done with the place.
Some of you folks have submitted some mighty fine photos of your great gardens... fun huh!
We put in around eighty plants around the end of May mostly #9 and 16, tried a few of the Connecticut shade but they never made it.  Rained all of June, got hot as all get out the entire month of July and so far it is looking like fall all ready during August.
The plants are growing well and I hope to submit a few photos soon.
One of the "shade" plants did make it but it actually looks more like Rhubarb, so not sure what is going on there, or maybe no wonder it made it.
We rescued a large double door type cooler from the local dump added a small heater and a portable thermostat which only goes to 110 degrees and a small humidifier which we keep on a timer to cut off the flow trying to keep a balance of moisture with the heat.  So far after only a couple of weeks leaf is turning well although thus far it is only small leaf.  We figure we experiment now before the cold weather sets in (September) so when we really need the system we will know exactly what we need to do.
Also using the bag and alcohol method (using vodka) on those hot sunny days laying them on the picnic table, much cheaper than using electricity.
We will continue to use this method as long as the weather allows.

In the past I have used Diatomaceous Earth for pests, it is labor intensive but sure does the trick, and you do need to wash off your leaf well before curing it.  This year so far I have used nothing and have had little damage mostly from grass hoppers.  I go out a few times each day on a squishing mission as well as pinching off suckers and such.

Well then as Dan once told me, your going to have allot of fun with this and to date no truer words have been spoken.
take care all,  Erv
