That's certainly a nice picture of a seedling, the leaves are rounder than the ones I have on my Silk Leaf plants, but that could be how much light they got. Good luch with the growing season!

when i started the seed, i took and put them in peat pellets and covered the tray with a doubled up towel for 2 days, then i put them in light and within a day, most started to germinate, until i hardened them off, they were under 24/7 florescent shop  lights

ok, we got all the tobacco planted out, I'll post one pic below, all the pics are available at my photobucket album here

http://s658.photobucket.com/albums/uu302/bob_kemp/

The biggest trouble we're gonna have is lack of water, hope it rains soon, else I'll just water each plant individually. I put some high nitrogen fertilizer around each plant, maybe 2 tbs or less for each one now and watered it in.

I did have trouble with cutworms, one day I picked 15 off the plants, next day 2, since then have only found one. Only had to replant 4 from the original planting of 120.

You can try experimenting with different liqueurs. Cherry brandy, amaretto, rock and rye stuff like that. I know it would make a good tasting chaw but I don't know how it would smoke.
I knew an old fellow from down south that said he would lay his leaf in a shallow pan and pour rye whiskey on it. He told me he'd cover it and let it evaporate then roll cigars. That's a lot of whiskey. For me a fine mist of a 50/50 mix of whiskey and water gives the leaf a nice flavor.
I once put some cigarette tobacco, #18 shredded, in a mason jar with some orange peel and some in another jar with apple peels. I tried them out about a year  later. It did pick up the flavor and aroma of the fruit but I didn't care for the taste.

Dan,

I lost the link to your website so I looked all over here in this forum and couldn't find it! Could you repost it? I think maybe you should put it prominently at the top of the forum list too so casual visitors can find it. I wanted to see if you had any of the #18 cigarette tobacco leaf to sell that you mentioned in the last post.

If you are coming here for the first time, Dan's website where he sells tobacco seeds and some leaf is at

http://tobaccotalk.itgo.com/

There's a lot of good info about growing, processing and blending tobacco on his website, check it out!

Bob

ps. Dan, I think you should put something like this at the very top of the forum too.....bk

Hi --

I thought I'd update everyone on how my crop is doing.

Dan told me to plant out in an earlier post and I only got 120 plants in the ground then. Got busy, and took another 2 weeks to put about 100 more plants in the ground and it looks like every one of those is going to bolt to flowers! Flowers are nice, but I was looking for leaf. I've learned my lesson, don't get busy during the busiest time of the year for my greenhouse sales! lol

Also, I've been using the hunt and destroy method for caterpillers rather than spray the Caterpiller Killer (bT) product and it seems to be working pretty well. 1st day I killed 15, next day 3, next day one only and in the last week have only killed 2. However I did notice 3-4 days ago that the moth eggs were easy to see and I've been stripping them off too. one kind is bright yellow, another white and hard and another is black and hard. I just wipe them off and they never get to hatch!

The caterpillers I'm seeing are mostly cutworms and cabbage loopers, but I"m sure some of th eggs I'm killing are the tomato hornworm which is prevelent here.

Thanks,

Bob
