I have a question about flowering. Are the buds removed as soon as they are seen or left on awhile before removal? They weren't there yesterday but they are today.

If you are talking about topping off the plants to get better leaf then yes break off the buds. Also look down the plant and break off any suckers that grow out of where the leaf meets the stalk. You could see suckers at the base of the plant too break them off. Clean the plant up and it will give you better leaf.
You'll have to keep an eye out for the top (buds) growing back. Right about now that plant wants to make seeds.
