I think it is important to welcome New Members and sometimes we fail to do so because we are so involved with planting and growing our tobacco and we all have questions for one another. That works great because everyone here is so accommodating.
Yet new people just joining might feel a little intimidated because this is completely new to them and they are trying to figure out 'How' to address us.
In my opinion...the more people we have....the better this site gets.
Please don't be like me and fear to ask questions, Ask away!
Your input helps us all and there is no Stupid Question! I know!
Just join us and learn from us all as we learn from your questions.
We all are one and we generate a better community as we grow.
Everyone here will help you. They have sure helped me even as I ask the same dumb question over and over again.
This is a good place to settle into and we All Welcome you!

Hi -
Guy, I have it set to e-mail me when there are new posts to a forum I've subscribed to, but when a new member just posts it as a new forum, not under an existing one, I can't get notified.
We should have a section set up for new members to introduce themselves.

Bob, Guy and anyone else. I'll give this a shot but I guess you can tell by now I am not good at this forum thing.
Here is my idea. I need some input here guys. I am going to title the new thread: NEW MEMBERS
These suggestions motivated me to set up a thread just for new members:

So here it is. Let me start off by saying the registration part isn't my idea. The forum owners require it. Okay, after you register join in.
Like the man said, "there is no such thing as a dumb question." To put that in perspective let me say it this way; On a scale from 1 to 100. One being someone who doesn't know what tobacco is and 100 being the producer of the finest tobacco in the world, we figure in between 1 and 70. So if you never heard of tobacco or you are the producer of the finest tobacco the world has ever seen, join in.
You will also recognize in short order that I am not well versed in computer technology and am just about getting the hang of forum operation so any suggestions on how to improve this forum are welcome. Not saying I am going to go with them but they are welcome.
Two features I think should be pointed out are the "attach file" and the "notify me when a reply is posted" features. The "notify me. . ." doesn't always work but the "attach file" does. You can upload pictures from your desktop and post them.
Well there it is.

Hi --
Sounds good Dan. Maybe add one called Suggestions and move that part of the text into the first post on that new forum.
There are forums, right? In each forum are topics? In each topic are threads? Is this how it's organized?
forum (named by you)
Topic 1 (could be named only by you and fixed?)
Thread 1 (started by members containing posts?)
post 1
post 2
...
Post n
Thread 2
...
Thread n
Topic 2
...
Topic n
So you could have it set up like this --
Two forums - one for pictures, one for tobacco topics/threads
Topic forum (idea)
Forum Rules (if any like no abusive language, your policy etc.)
(this is fixed by you and locked no additions)
Suggestion Box
(a fixed topic open to new threads)
New Members
(fixed topic, each thread is stated by a new member where current members can say hi)
Growing Tobacco
(fixed topic, members start threads)
Processing Tobacco
(fixed topic, members start threads)
Clssified Ads and Trading Post
(fixed topic, members start threads)
Let people suggest new fixed topics in the Suggestion Box?
I could do this better with a flowchart on paper, but the filing system is pretty clear I think.

I like this idea, too.
I'm also relatively new to this forum, and though I've been a gardener and amateur botanist for decades, I am totally new to tobacco.
Man, I love these plants! I was NOT disappointed when I finally got some that grew. The seed I got from Dan, 4 years ago, was good, I just did not know how to really get them started.
Now if this goofy weather would cooperate. All my sphinx larvae have died off, too.
