Thank You Dan,
Used to grow some great Habanero peppers from seeds, but I didn't have much luck with tobacco this year, none sprouted.
Thanks again,
John

Hi --
Sorry to hear your seeds didn't sprout. What do you think the trouble was? I am able to get spouts by using a steilized potting soil, I put through a 1/4 inch mesh to keep it very fine, spinkle the seeds on top, water it from the bottom and if the top gets dry, mist it. In fact, I mist it a couple times a day whether it needs it or not. The seedlings are very small when they first sprout, I actually use a magnifying lens to see them clearly.
Hope that helps,
Bob |

Thanks Bob,
I'll have to try that, sounds good.
How do you water from the bottom?
Thanks Again

Hi --
The simplest way is to plug the sink, run a few inches of water into it, and put the pot in, careful that it doesn't float and tip over, although you should sow the seeds in pre-wetted potting mix anyhow so it shouldn't float. The water wicks up to the top of the pot, if it doesn't, add a few more inches of water. This doesn't disturb th seeds.
When we are planting our main transplant crop for Spring, we have up to 24 trays to soak. Then we have a shower base we plug up and fill with water and rotate th trays through it until they are all soaked.
For tobacco, I also make the soil level much lower than the top of the pot to maintain a humid microenvironment for the tiny plantlets.
Also, I'd watch the temps. I generally make sure that the temps are around 70F for germinating these seeds. If it's going to get colder, I put a heat lamp on them being VERY careful not to put it too close!

Thank you Bob,
That sounds like a good set-up, I'll give it a try.
I use to grow some good hot pepper varieties from seeds, Habanero, etc.
Thanks again
